5 Awesome Holiday Ideas for A Getaway In UK
The United Kingdom is a great place to have a getaway to relax and have fun during the holidays. There are endless amounts to see and do across the UK, however, here are 5 of my favorite destinations for a great holiday getaway in UK.
Go to the Lake District
The Lake District offers about 3,000 kilometers of fun, where you can walk, ride a bicycle, or even ride a boat. Walkers, joggers, and cyclists flock to the famous Lake District National Park. If you are into water sports, you may book a trip on motor boats, sailing dinghies, or to paddle on your canoe. During winters, the Fell Top Assessor will assist you to reach the summit of the mountain and will even teach you to read weather reports at the Lake District Weatherline Service station.
Go to Bournemouth
Bournemouth is located on the South Coast of England. If you love the beach, it is the perfect place for you to spend your holiday. It is composed of about 7 miles of sandy beaches. Aside from the beach, you may also play golf, visit their museums and oceanarium, and have loads of fun in their colourful amusement arcades. Bournemouth is also famous for their theme parks such as the world’s first Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park and the Farmer Palmer’s Park. If you are staying the night, there is a huge range of accommodation on offer, from affordable B&Bs, to boutique hotels; there is something for everyone!
Go to Edinburgh
If you want to travel back in time, you may choose to visit Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city. While it is slowly evolving into a dynamic modern city, it is still surrounded by majestic, gothic structures such as castles and old churches. From June to September, crowds flock to the city to shop at the famous Royal Mile and Princes Street. Edinburgh is also famous for the North British Grain Distillery, a distillery built in 1885 that makes the finest whiskies.
Go on a canal boat holiday
From Northern Ireland up to Britain, there are over 2,000 miles of inland waterways, more commonly known as canals, that you can navigate via a canal boat or a more luxurious cruise. If you go on a canal boat holiday, you will get to pass by interesting sceneries like grassy rural villages, industrial-era structures, swing bridges, and much more. Here are some of the popular canal boat holiday routes that you may check out:
- Cambridge Waterways
- Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
- Leeds-Liverpool Canal
- Thames Ring
- Stourport Ring
Usually, canal boats are equipped with kitchen, showers, toilets, and beddings, and they can accommodate an average of 6 people.
Go Surfing in Cornwall
Cornwall is a magnet for surfers and beach lovers, hence why it is called the “UK’s Surf Capital”. Recently, Cornwall hosted the Fistral Boardmasters, one of the largest pro-surf competitions in Europe. If you are into a thrilling holiday, here are some of Cornwall’s best beaches:
- Fistral Beach – Fistral Beach is located in Newquay, Cornwall and is famous for waves that can reach up to 8 feet.
- Polzeath Beach – Polzeath Beach is situated in Padstow. While it does not have towering waves, it’s still good for those who are still learning how to surf.
With a great variety of interesting destinations, you can never go wrong planning a getaway in UK, there truly is something for everyone!
